Rapids Youth Wrestling -- "There is no easy way"

Rapids Youth Wrestling Club is based in Wisconsin Rapids, home of the legendary Lincoln High School Red Raiders Wrestling Team.  Wrestling, in Wisconsin Rapids begins at the grade school level but it's never to late to take up the sport.  Many of the most successful Red Raider high school wrestlers entered the sport in Junior High.  Wisconsin Rapids offers a wealth of wrestling opportunities for kids of all ages, experience and interest levels.

Wrestling Opportunities for Youth Wrestlers (1st through 9th grade)

Junior High School Wrestling -- Open to any 7th, 8th or 9th graders, this program is offered as a school sport at both East Junior High and West Junior High.  Wrestlers compete as a team against other schools.  Season runs from December through January.  Cost: Free (offered as a school sport).  Check with your school for details.

Grade School Programs -- These are after school or evening programs offered at the public grade schools for kids in 1st through 6th grades that have not wrestled at tournaments outside of the school district.  Kids learn the sport of wrestling through practice and instruction by an experienced wrestling coach and have the opportunity to compete against kids of similar ability and experience levels from other local schools.  Emphasis is on fun and introduction to the sport.  The cost is free.  Practices start the first week of December and continue through the District Tournament in mid-January.  Grade school teams also compete against each other in a series of weeknight wrestling meets.  For more information check with your grade school office.

Rapids Youth Wrestling Club -- This is a more advanced program for youth of all ages (no high school wrestlers).  First year wrestlers are welcome as long as they are interested in learning and applying themselves.  Practices are held in the Lincoln High School Wrestling Room two nights a week, starting the 3rd week of January, and continuing into the spring and early summer for those interested in Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling.  Cost: Free.  Simply show up at any practice to join.  Practice times are 6:00 to 7:45.  Wrestlers wanting to compete at tournaments have a wide range of opportunities through the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation.  See details below.

Youth Club Tournament Listing...

Participation at youth wrestling tournaments is optional.  You can find a tournament every weekend if you don't mind the driving.  The tournaments identified in red are the ones that we are promoting for team participation.  That means you are most likely to see other wrestlers from our team at these tournaments and there will be coaches and other parents from our team as well.  There is no advance registration or sign-up, and you are free to attend other tournaments if they better fit your plans.  Need directions?  Click here!
